This is a vintage 14k yellow gold stick pin (or lapel pin), with a head that
is in the shape of a horseshoe and that has 14 small and very sparkly diamonds
on it. Each diamond is in a setting that is open in the back, which causes
light to filter through the openings and to emphasize the sparkle of each
stone. I do not know exactly when this particular pin was made, but I acquired
it at the end of the 20th Century. Classic stick pins like this one were very
popular during the latter part of the 19th Century and the early part of 20th
Century. The pin is marked “14KP (or 14K Plumb, which means that it is exactly
14K), on the back of the head.

Around the world, the horseshoe has long been considered as a symbol of good
luck. For various cultures, there are superstitions and folklore related to the
“luck” of the horseshoe. Some cultures believe that, when the horseshoe is hung
with the ends pointing down (as they are on this stickpin), it will release
luck to the people around it. Many cultures simply believe that, since
horseshoes protect horses, they must protect people too.

This stickpin has a head that is about 3/8 of an inch (wide) by 1/2 of an inch
(high). The pin’s total length is about 1 15/16 inches. Each diamond is about
1.6mm in size.

I have enlarged some of the images (and the stick pin and its stones look
larger than they actually are), so that you can clearly see the details of this
item. In images nos. 5 and 6, you can see the actual sizes of the pin and its
stones, relative to the size of a penny. The size of the pin and stones are
also clearly stated, above.

This item is in very good condition, with no chips or cracks on the stones and
no dents on the gold metal. The pin does not come with an end-clasp.
