Such a sweet little piece. I've got no idea about whether or not this is
actually any sort of gold nor not, but it sure is pretty and has a decidedly
gold appearance to it. I'll leave it at that. It is not marked in any way,
shape, nor fashion. I would wear it every day. and why not you?
I'm not an expert on these things, and I thought that this one kind of looked
a little bit like an opal, so when I started to research it a bit, imagine my
surprise when it apparently appears to be a whole lot more. I could be wrong,
but this is what it seems to be:
The Czechoslovakians made a lots of different art glass stones and beads and
they were quite proficient at mimicking styles. Apparently this one might have
been called the Mexican Fire Opal, but it also Has properties similar to both
saphiret in color and dragon's breath stone in display - almost a perfect mix -
looks like a very pale or close to clear dragon's breath opal gem. Unique and
very unusual, and what is more the ripples that are usually the trademark of
the Dragon's Breath opals are underneath the surface in this cabochon instead
of bubbling the surface. And I, for one, like that a whole lot more.
Considering that this is a closed back piece, I think that the brilliance of
the opal is quite remarkable, don't you?
All of this leads me to believe that this is a Fine Czech hand crafted art
glass gem, set in a very nicely worked gold surround.
