This type of piece is frequently described as a "jabot pin," meaning the
fasteners that would have held together a jabot collar. It more likely was worn
as a hat ornament. It's made of celluloid accented with with clear rhinestones.
The celluloid appears to be cream colored, painted or overdyed with black. The
full ornament measures about 1 15/16" x 1 1/16".
Please note that the pin has a two-part threaded/screw closure and cannot
actually be pinned into fabric. Wear it as intended, attached to a sturdy or
open-weaved hat that won't be damaged. Or... wear it on a thicker cable
sweater, threaded through an open lace or eyelet trim.
Condition is excellent with a couple of small issues to note. There is one
missing stone, which is hard to see without magnification. The remaining stones
all show age appropriate fading, but but there are no yellow or dark stones.
You can also see some tiny spots where the black color is worn on the edges,
revealing the white underneath. I will add that although the color is basically
stable, you can't really clean this piece. I used a damp kleenex to remove a
small spot of dirt, and with very little effort on my part lifted a little of
that black color. It didn't damage the piece or even leave a spot of wear, but
you can see how attempting to test or clean this piece is out of the question.
The metal hardware is secure and does show some dark spots from age.
