Beautiful antique Hat Pin ending with a Love Knot. It is marked Sterling Top
on the stem.

During the 1880s, bonnets gave way to hats, and . T and were produced in a
vast range of materials and types.

Women started to wear Hatpins around the 1850s when bonnets gave way to hats.
They starting using them to secure straw hats during summer. The popularity of
hatpins soared and remained a standard women's accessory through the 1910s.

Interesting fact: The hatpin as a hidden stabbing device was so effective for
self-defense that manuals were published on proper usage. Manuals instructed
women who were attacked from behind to reach for their hatpins, spin around,
and stab their assailant in the face.

This is a wonderful vintage piece. Stem is not perfectly straight
