We are pleased to offer you this exquisite and exclusive item, a completely
hand sewn and historically accurate 18th century women's calash.
This item was available only to the highest class of women and was the epitome
of fashion for the 1770s and 1780s, where the calash would have been used to
protect a woman's styled hair, or wig, from damage as a result of the elements,
as well as purely being a fashion statement. The wealth required to purchase
such an item was extensive and the signal it sent was equally as stunning.
Our calash is completely hand sewn and only uses period materials, such as
100% silk and silk ribbon, as well as cotton twill tape for ties. This item is
made on request and is not kept on in stock, owing to the cost and the delicate
nature of the calash. This calash should be worn with your most extravagant
gown and should be carefully worn and stored.
We are quite proud of this piece, being quite a rare and unique item in the
fashion closet of an 18th century woman of means.
This item is not meant, nor appropriate for a "camp follower", this is
intended for only the wealthiest women in society and for those who wish to
make a statement with their fashion, to the rest, let them eat cake.
All items are sold as is and are produced on a per order basis; each work is a
custom piece and reproduced (where applicable) by hand and using period
materials as close as possible to the original materials used in the 17th, 18th
and 19th centuries. All items may be subject to a delay and currently each item
will require one to two weeks to produce and ship from our workshop, unless
otherwise noted.
All bespoke modern and historical clothing and items are dependent upon the
measurements provided by you, the buyer and we cannot take responsibility for
mishitting items as a result of improperly provided measurements and associated
requirements. Custom fitting appointments are available in person and
virtually, for those who require them and where applicable; please contact us
as to arrange such an appointment.
Please contact us for special requests, specific items that you might have in
mind and other such requirements that we might be able to assist you with.
